How to distinguish between Deep Autumn and Deep Winter

The two deep palettes: similarities and differences
Both Deep Autumn and Deep Winter are characterized by being strong and richly coloured palettes. They are also the most extended in most parts of the world, where the population falls neatly into these two seasons.

Similarities:
  • Both have dark hair.
  • Both have a strong eye colour (brown, hazel, green).
  • Both palettes look good in bold primary colours, and bad in pastels.
  • Both can wear black around their face and black and white (off-white, ivory) and other high-contrast prints around their faces without looking washed out.
While it is natural that there should be some confusion between Deep Autumns and Deep Winters, it is important to know to which one you belong to. Deep Winters look truly awful in colours that are great on Deep Autumns, and viceversa.
Betty Suárez and Agent Diana Barrigan. These two Deep Winters don't look good in Deep Autumn shades. In the case of Betty Suárez, the wrong palette was used to make her appear less atractive than she actually is. Diana Barrigan, I'm afraid, just does not know which colours look good on her. Searching for photos to know which was her palette, I found she was often dressed in Autumn colours with neutral makeup and sometimes in Winter colours with warm makeup.

Clear Winter palettes: Best colours

About their colours
The colours that suit Clear Winters best are similar to the Clear Springs', but stronger and deeper. Clear Winters usually have dark, striking eyebrows that frame their jewel-like eyes, both of which contrast greatly with their skin tone. This contrast is the reason why, when choosing outfits, Clear Winters look their best when contrasting their darker neutrals with ligther shades.

Best neutrals:
  • Black and charcoal.
  • Dark brown is best on hazel-eyed Clear Winters.
  • Navies and grays.
Other colours:
  • Icy colours: not pastel colours but the palest shades of blue, pink, green, blue, yellow... ie. white with tinges inside and no black (which would turn the shades muddy).
  • Vibrant blues and greens.
  • Reds that contain just the right amount of blue.
Colour combinations:
  • Icy violet and purple, icy pink with charcoal gray...
  • True blue and black.
  • Weaves mixing neutrals: for instance, taupe and black, or gray and navy.

Deep Winter: Best colours

About their colours
The colours that suit Deep Winters best are vibrant primary colours, deep neutrals, and jewel and icy colours. Black is really great on you (by the way, only Winters and Deep Autumns can carry a significant amount of black near their faces with success... I am not that keen on Clear Springs wearing huge amounts of black). Pastel colours, on the contrary, drain the colour from their faces and make them look tired, and so do camels, bronzes and muted, dusty greens.
Best neutrals:
  • Black, charcoal, and navy.
  • Browns have to be truly saturated. If Deep Winters have dark circles under their eyes, and they usually do (because of hyperpigmentation), this colour will accentuate them, so concealer seems to be in order here.
Other colours:
These can be used as neutrals in one-colour outfits or accessories, and they do make Deep Winters stand out.
  • Blue reds.
  • Cobalt blue and turquoise.
  • Emerald and forest green.
  • Pure white.
Colour combinations:
  • Charcoal and turquoise or fuchsia.
  • Black and white, especially in graphic prints.
  • Navy and turquoise.
  • Gray and red.
